Dr. Pieter D’Hooghe

Dr. Pieter D’Hooghe is the Chief Medical Officer of Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, Qatar.  Since 2007, the hospital has provided top-level comprehensive medical treatment to all athletes in a state-of-the-art facility that has been setting new international standards. In 2009, Aspetar was accredited as a “FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence” by F-MARC. In 2013, Aspetar was adopted as a reference collaborator center by the Gulf Countries Council (GCC) Health Ministers Council and “The IOC Research Centre for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health” in 2014. In 2015, Aspetar was recognized as the “IHF Reference Centre for Athlete and Referee Health”.

Dr. D’Hooghe is a Belgian passionate Sports Traumatologist who specializes in the arthroscopic surgery of knee, ankle & foot. He holds a Master in Sports Medicine, a Master in Tropical Medicine and also an MBA in Sports Management. He is the editor of 7 textbooks on Sports injuries and has authorship over +35 book chapters and +65 peer-reviewed publications. Prior to working in Aspetar Hospital, Dr. d’Hooghe spent 17 years as the team physician/surgeon of FC Club Bruges in Belgium. Currently, he is an Orthopaedic Consultant for 4 European Champions League Football Teams.

As chairman of the ISAKOS Leg, Ankle and Foot Committee, he heads an international group of experts in the field and as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Weill Cornell University he is also involved in research, education and delivering lectures worldwide.
